Everyone knows the traditional story of the three little pigs right? When I was growing up I thoroughly enjoyed the traditional stories. Well Jon Scieszka decides to reveal The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, with illustrations by Lane Smith. My mom introduced this book to me when I was younger, giving me a chance to indulge in my imagination. This reworked fairytale has a twist on the original story we have all heard as kids, and instead makes the wolf out to be more different than we originally perceived. This humorous story will engage young students in the plot of the newly found story. Yet there is a big life lesson presented here; don’t be so quick to judge someone by the way they act.

Before Scieszka became an author, he used to teach at an elementary school. There he ‘re-discovered how smart kids are, and found the best audience for the weird and funny stories he had always like to read and write.’ This realization was the start of Scieszka’s successful career. Peter Lewis from commonsensemedia.org writes “It also alludes to how a seemingly carefree laugh-along can coexist with deeper ideas.” Therefore, it can be beneficial for teachers to introduce this book to younger classes such as kindergarten or even first grade students because it allows them to be exposed to the life lesson that is presented in this book.
